Hi Mom (Dad & everybody else),

Just a quickie as we get ready to run out the door for a W2W core-team Christmas party.

The girls are out of school. Chloe survived finals. Megan did *not* get the Annie part :-( So - they are both up for a good 2-week break.

Wouldn't you know it, Megan got sick the day before the audition. She managed to get through it. In the end a 6th grader in Ms. Keene's choir class got the part. Megan is the under-study for Molly - one of the other orphans.

Chloe worked really hard on finals - she really got organized, poured over notes, studied with friends, stayed up late - and in the end did pretty good with everything except math. Geometric proofs are hard - I don't even understand them.

We had another team building event at work - my boss took us to the movies. We saw "The Tourist" with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie - it wasn't very good.

Theresa and I also watched "Grown Ups" last night on OnDemand. It was pretty funny.

Interesting to hear about some of the movies you've been to see. How was Black Swan? That seems a little racey :-) We'd kind of like to see the King's Speach and The Fighter. I have The Social Network on my list to see too.

I just finished a few decent books. Rick Springfield's autobiography - Late Late at Night. He really suffers with depression. Do More Faster is about entrepreneurial start-ups by a local Boulder guy - Brad Feld. It's in interesting look at what it takes to start your own high tech company - in hopes of becoming the next Google, Facebook or Twitter - most don't make it (1 in 10). And finally, Meghan McCain's Dirty Sexy Politics - it was a pretty light-hearted look at her involvement in the campaign. Not very serious reading :-)

We are off of BSF for the next couple of weeks too.

I don't really have any plans to take any extra days off for Christmas. This coming Friday and Monday are the days off for Christmas. And then the following Friday is the day off for the New Years holiday. I'm on call during the daytime Tue-Thu between Christmas and New Year. So I can't really take those days off anyway.

We had super warm weather here today. After church both the girls had baby sitting jobs. Theresa and went to the grocery store. Then we split and went for a run and Theresa walked the dog. I had way too many clothes on for almost 60F weather.

Church was good. We are doing a project called the Advent Conspiracy. Worship Fully, Spend less, Give More, Love All.

Well that's about it. I'll try to get some new photos up on Ceiva. I have kinda forgotten about that
luv u,

Jeff

Hi Mom (and Dad, and everybody else),

It's been a few weeks since I've written.  With you here for Thanksgiving I haven't gotten back in the habit yet.

IMG_1136.JPG

Sure was a nice visit.  It seems like such a long time ago.  Now time is quickly marching on towards Christmas.  It was great to get a head start on the decorations while you were here with the Christmas tree and lights.  Theresa has been busy this weekend with the rest.  Garland and lights up the stairs and on the mantel.  Nativity scenes, snowmen, wreaths, etc etc etc.  It looks great and really starting to feel like it 'tis the season.  We haven't had any snow down here.  Maybe 1 1/2 inches so far this winter.  The mountains are getting a lot of it - good for skiing.  But it'd be fun to have some down here too.

One more week of school for the girls.  I really feel for Chloe - she has final exams all next week (2 a day for Tue-Thu).  She has been studying hard for the past couple of weeks.  But it's HARD!  I helped her with some world history and math a little and I can hardly answer the questions myself (Google and Wikipedia are your friend!).

Megan has been working hard on school too.  And she's been practicing for the lead audition in the school musical (Annie Jr.).  She has to sing "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow".  She went and had a vocal lesson from Aaron Britton (worship pastor at church) and has a another one next Wednesday.  Then I think the try outs are on Thursday.  She also had a big part in the play for her drama class.  It was an excellent production.

IMG_1154.jpg

Seems like we are always on the go.  With Theresa working on Monday's at the church and Tues/Thurs at Sport Solution it makes for a busy week.  At least W2W has ended for the year so she has some time on Weds & Fri now.  Tomorrow is my last BSF for the year - so that will be a nice break too.  We have a couple of Christmas parties to go to next Sunday and Monday.

We got your Christmas cards for each of the family yesterday.  I assume they are to wait until Christmas.  Thanks!
IMG_1147.JPG

We've watched a couple of movies from Netflix the last couple of days.  An Education (coming of age movie w/Carey Mulligan in 1969s England) and The Miracle Match (USA soccer team in 1950 - beat England 1-0).  Both were okay.  We have either Twilight: Eclipse or Eat, Pray, Love for tonight.  I also rented The New Karate Kid for me to watch sometime (I can't get the girls interested in it :-).

Not much of a game for the Army Navy game :-(  I guess they scored a couple of touchdown's - that's a first for a long time.  But I think it's going on 9 years now since Army one.  We watched the Heisman award - no question Cam Newton was winning that.  Missouri basketball is still going good.  But they sure cut it close sometimes.  Terrible loss to Georgetown - they had that game won and threw it away.  3pt. overtime win against Vanderbilt.  Insight Bowl against Iowa for the football team.

We had a fun team building event at work on Friday.  Rib House for lunch and then to Indoor Archery for the afternoon.  It was great.

IMG_1170.JPG

Well that's all I know for now.  Have a great week.

Luv u,

Jeff

Hi Mom,

Only one more week to go and you guys are out here.  Can't wait!

Looks like the 70+ days are down.  Snow is starting to fall.  Not really sticking yet.  But it won't be long 'til we get a big one.  I'm not ready for it :-(

Theresa had a great couple of days at Laura Prill's open studios on Friday and Saturday.  She made $540 selling Handmaiden Boulder wares!  AMAZING!  Not a bad start to a birthday weekend.  Today she tried to relax a little bit.  We didn't have any major celebrations. Megan did a great job of decorating with birthday banners, table cloth, confetti, horns and wrapping the presents - a cool light blue travel coffee cup from Bed Bath & Beyond and two new pillows from Marshalls.

I met with Desra and a friend of hers, Josh, to talk about triathlon coaching for next season (starting in January 2011).  We talked about a customized program for both of them for $360 each.

Trying to make a few extra bucks anyway we can.  That and with Theresa's extra take home pay from the church and Sports Solution it's really helping out.

Chloe had a friend spend the night on Friday night and then she helped a friend babysit last night until 11:30pm - so I think she is running on fumes too.

Megan went down yesterday for youth group girls pottery making.  That sounded like fun.

I played today at church.  For the first service I was alone leading on acoustic guitar (with the rest of the band and the vocalists) because Aaron was leading in the sanctuary for the traditional service.  I was so nervous.  But it went great.

The girls were off school on Thursday for veterans day.  And then back to school on Friday.  It's was kind of a weird schedule.  I wish I had the day off but I didn't.

I recorded MU vs. KSU and then watched it while riding my stationary bike.  Finally MU gets back on the winning track.  Tough day for KU and UofA.

Whew - it's only 8:24pm but I slowing down.  So, I think I'll cut it short.

Luv,

Jeff

Hi Mom,

Happy Halloween.  Looks like the neighborhood is gearing up for a big night.  It's surprising how many people go all out to decorate.  Just up and down our street we have two graveyards, one haunted house and lots of lights.  Megan is going out as Wilma from the Flinstones and Chloe is a Denver Bronco football player (with an old Jay Cutler jersey).  I hoping it doesn't go to late since it's a school night.  We have over 300 pieces of candy and I bet we'll run out.

Disappointing day for the Missouri Tigers yesterday :-(  They just can't take the leap to the next level.  After the big win over Oklahoma it was too much to ask for two in a row over big time program like Nebraska.  24 points in the 1st Quarter - yuck.

We haven't done much this weekend out and about.  Lots of chores today (and even today some).  Raked all the leaves in yard.  Theresa has been doing laundry all weekend and vacuumed.  I got a mountain bike ride in yesterday and run this afternoon.  The weather has been fantastic.

A quick run to the grocery store after church and a quick $250.

We had a pizza night last night and watched Avatar again.  Megan was spending the night at Clara's and Chloe played with a neighbor until around 9:30pm.

We are looking forward to Idina Menzel next Friday with the Colorado Symphony (conducted by Marvin Hamlisch).  I've been pretty excited about it for some time now.

Last Thursday was Megan's parent teacher conferences.  She good reports from all her teachers.  They enjoy having her in class, say she is so nice and kind and respectful.... ahhhhh.

That's all I know for now :-)

Hi Mom,

We are back from a rainy, mellow, laid back weekend in Beaver Creek.  It was pretty gloomy all weekend.  But we really didn't mind.  We got up there about 7pm Friday night and had Costco pizza brought from home.  Everybody slept in a bit on Saturday morning.  We headed out for breakfast/brunch at Denny's around 10am.  Then over to Walmart for a little shopping and a few groceries.  We dropped everything off at the condo and then went back out to the River Walk in Edwards to check out the shops and see Secretariat at the movie theater for 1:10pm.  I really enjoyed the movie.  What an amazing story of an amazing horse (and all the people behind him :-).

After the day out - I settled in for the Missouri vs. Oklahoma football game - WAHOO!  What a great effort by Missouri.  I was on the edge of my seat the whole game.  I can't believe they actually pulled it off and won.  That's probably one of the biggest wins in Missouri's history (if not THE biggest).  Jumped us all the way up to number 8 in the polls today.  And Nebraska next week - tough.

We had Chinese food in little frozen containers from Walmart (that wasn't very good) during the game.  The girls hit the pool, hot tub and fitness center - they weren't too interested in the game.

I finished a book up in Beaver Creek - mindless fiction recommended by a friend on the worship team - The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell.  About the Saxons and the Danes fighting to rule England.  It was okay.  It's part of a series and I'm not sure I'll read the others.

Today we checked out at 10am and headed for the outlet malls in Silverthorn.  Gap, Old Navy, Aeropostle, Lucky Jeans... then a quick Chipotle for lunch and home.

There was snow up in the passes (pictures on Ceiva).

We got home about 3:30pm and unpacked and working on some homework.  Getting ready for the week.

Megan got her report card last week.  All As and 1 B - 3.875 GPA.

Theresa had a busy week with work and more of the same next week.  Monday at the church, tuesday/thursday at Sport Solution.

Whew - that's all I know.

Hi Mom,

Another week...

We've had some real pleasant weather this weekend.  It's just about been picture perfect fall weather - good for football.  The CU vs. Baylor game was last night at Folsom Field under the lights (we didn't go - but I kinda followed it on the radio).  I did watch the Tigers win against A&M.  And Nebraska lose to Texas.  Arizona won right?  and they are still ranked higher than the Tigers even though we are 6-0.  That could change over the next couple of weeks as Missouri plays Oklahoma and Nebraska back to back.  It's gettin' serious now :-0)

We we over at the Britton's house again this afternoon for sabbath.  Chicken fajitas, chips and salsa and apple pie and chocolate chip cookies.  It was nice to just hang out.

Yesterday was chores around the house then errands in the afternoon.  We went and got our Eldora 3-passes then to  Mcguckins, and Costco.  Costco hot dogs made a nice cheap dinner.  Well, I guess it really wasn't too cheap - the hotdog is only $1.50 but the Costco bill was $225.

Friday afternoon was the last cross country meet of the season for Chloe.  And Megan went to Fairview High School's homecoming game with Clara.

Wednesday night we had parent teacher conferences at Boulder High with Chloe's teachers.  It was good to meet them face-to-face/one-on-one.  But I don't think there is any magic there to get Chloe through school - it's just really hard work for Chloe.

Tuesday night we had a house guest from the UK.  A friend of a friend.  David Hughes sister goes to church with this guy.  A school teacher at a posh private boarding school.  He is on sabbatical and did a trek across the western US.  His blog is kind of interesting reading - http://dewesy.blogspot.com/.

Next weekend we are off to Beaver Creek for a little weekend get away.  Using up the last of our 2010 timeshare nights.  We don't really have big plans but to just relax.  Sleep, read, watch some movies, eat - maybe a trip over to Glenwood for the hot springs or a little hike.

Well... that's about it from our exciting life.  I like the routine :-)

luv u,

Jeff

Hi Mom,

It's been a couple of weeks.  I skipped my birthday week last weekend.  I guess you were out hiking too.  We got the postcard.  And I got my Birthday card and money.  Thanks!  (I also got a nice card and check from Ken, Mona and Mandy - THX!).

We went to see Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps for my birthday last weekend.  Chloe had a cross country meet and Megan had a big weekend of babysitting (she made $130 over Friday night and Saturday afternoon).  So it was just Theresa and I.  Michael Douglas looked pretty good in it.  But I think his health is really failing fast.  Seems a long time from when you ran into him on a hiking trail in Tucson.

Last Sunday after church we did go over to the Britton's house (Aaron is the worship pastor at Calvary) for a small group/fellowship time.  We are trying to get connected with other families.  This one might work out.  It was directly after church and we were home by 4pm or so.  Better than the evening time for us.  We are off this week.  But I think back on again next Sunday.

The weeks fly by so fast I can hardly remember everything that happened (if I can even remember anything).  Maybe that's a sign of getting older :-)

It was pretty much a normal week.  BSF on Monday and Theresa Girls night out on Tuesday.  Theresa also worked on Tuesday and Thursday at Sports Solution.  She has several weeks in a row lined up at the church on Mondays coming up too.  I did get the word at work last week that would be no raises again in 2011 (second year in a row - bummer :-( ).  It's good to have a job but it's hard when you keep going backward.  Pay staying flat, cost of health care increasing every year and actual benefits going down.

This weekend Chloe went up to Fraser for the cross country retreat - just over Friday night.  I think they stayed at the YMCA there.  She got back last night in time to go see B.o.B. at the Boulder Theater.  She got home at midnight last night.  Busy little social bee.

Yesterday was chores.  Theresa worked really hard to get the house cleaned up.  We have a house guest from the UK on Tuesday night.  A friend of the Hughes.  He's a school teacher on sabbatical in the states just passing through.

I did watch MU vs. CU last night.  Missouri whipped up on them pretty good.  Fun bragging rights with all my Colorado buddies now.  Looks like AZ lost a close one.

Today is a cloudy, grey day.  Nice day to cozy in.  I checked out the Broncos getting beat.  Napped a little.  Getting ready for the work week.  I think Theresa is puttering around with laundry.  And the girls have been working on cleaning there rooms and a little home work.

Well - that's all I know for now.

Luv u,

Jeff

Hi Mom,

Busy week as usual.  Let's see how much I can remember.

Early in the week Theresa and I went down to south Denver for the 'free thyroid consult'.  It was very interesting to hear all the details and the diagnosis for Hashimotos.  I think she was right on with the exception of the $8,000 price tag for a 6-month program.  Ouch!  We decided to explore other options like review the data with our current doctor, schedule an appointment with a local endocrinologist, visit a nutritionist and do some research/reading on our own.

Thursday I had a team building day away from the office with my peers.  We went to the University of Colorado Challenge Course.  That's what all the pictures on the Ceiva are.  I really like the high ropes stuff.  Walking across a log 40 feet up in the air and climbing up an aerial jungle gym to 40ft.  Of course it's all supposed to translate back to the business world - teamwork, communication, planning, etc etc.  But I just had fun and it was a perfect day to be outside and away from the office.

This weekend was the Women of Faith Weekend for Theresa.  She had a good time but maybe it's run it's course having been so many years in a row.

The girls and I kept busy while she was away.  Friday night Megan, Clara and I picked up Chloe from the Boulder High after her cross country meet (she's still not running because of the shin splints).  We all went to Applebees for dinner.  Saturday morning we got up and did chores - cleaning the rooms, washing the dog, vacuuming.  Then we headed down to the mall for Chloe to return a few things then hours of shopping!  I mostly sat and read my book :-)  I snuck in a quick run as soon as we got home from the mall.  And Theresa finally got home at about 8pm exhausted.

We made a fatal mistake of bending the no sleepover rule on Saturday nights before Sunday church.  Megan talked us into letting Clara sleep over.  They set up a tent in the backyard.  Finally at about 2am I had to pull Megan out of the tent and send her up to her room for sleeping.  Girls and their giggling all night - oh brother.  Never mind promises of "We'll be quiet, We'll go to sleep early, We'll get up on time for church without whining or complaing".

Church today.  A mountain bike ride.  Some more chores, homework, laundry, bill paying.  And it's Sunday evening already :-(

The TV repair man came out on Friday afternoon.  He FIXED it!  Yeah.  It was $150 call out charge.  Turns out it was a bad fuse on the power supply board.  Simple little thing really.  Now that I've seen him repair it I could do it myself next time.  But it was tucked away in an obscure place.  So there was no way I could have figured it out on my own.  $150 well spent honestly.

Theresa's job search is continuing.  She has an opportunity to fill in at the church tomorrow while the staff is away on their Staff Retreat.  Then she is going down on Tuesday to check into helping out with this home based business with folks from our church.  We don't know them - thinking maybe they go out to the Erie campus.  It's some sort of sticker business where they've licensed sports teams logo.  Shipping, organizing, answering phones.

Several of the nursing home opportunities seem to be a bust.  Lots of training (at her cost), off hours and really low pay.

It would be great if some combination of helping out at the church and doing this homebased business help would be the answer.  But we are still praying about it.

School continues to be hard and challenging.  Megan is obsessive about straight As so she stresses herself out way too much and ends up hating school.  We have set rules with Chloe that she has to have Cs or higher and no missing assignments for her to be able to participate in social activities.  Right now she has a D in Spanish and Homecoming is next weekend.  She already bought her ticket and is looking forward to the dance.  But that is in jeopardy if she can't get the D up to a C.  She's going to retake a test on Thursday I think and see if that will do it.  I hope so - I really don't want her to miss out.

Well that's all for now.

Luv u,

Jeff

Hi Mom,
Quick update...  it seems all I can remember is what happened over the weekend.  All of last week is a blur.  It was a holiday on Monday so a short school/work week.
The Fourmile Canyon fire started Monday and I think it's about 70% contained now.  Some folks got to go back to their homes yesterday (if they still had a home to go to :-( 160+ houses burned) but others are still evacuated.
Chloe baby-sat on Friday night.  I didn't get home from work until 9pm - too late.  Theresa (and Megan) went to the wedding reception for her 'gig'.  It sounded like it went GREAT!  I'll let T catch up with you on all the details.
Yesterday Chloe had the St. Vrain Cross Country Invitational meet in Lyons.  Theresa left the house at 7am with 3 girls.
Megan and I had to go our own way.  We headed out at 7:30am for Gleaning with COMPA ministries.  Picking fresh beans for 3hrs.  It was really cool.  We did it last year too.
Then we all regrouped at home - briefly.  Chloe was headed back out for a sleepover.  I had a few errands to run.  Then Theresa, Megan and I had Noodles and Company for dinner.  We watched a little of the US Open Tennis women's final.
Church today.  Chores this afternoon.  Shopping for new running shoes for Chloe's cross country training ($91 - size 7 1/2).  Megan and Clara had a playdate and ended up heading over to the YMCA for swimming.  Chloe is working on some studying with Desra right now.  Theresa is flitting about with Laundry.
I think it's just nacho dinner and cozy in tonight before the work/school week begins with a flurry tomorrow.
BSF starts tomorrow night.
I've been reading a pretty interesting book called The Irresitable Revolution by Shane Claiborne.  It'll make ya think.  It's along the lines of being the Church, community and what if we really did what Jesus said.  I can't say I agree with all of it but like I said, it does make you think.  The sermon today at church was about the beatitudes and 'blessed are the poor in spirit'.  It kinda tied into the book a little bit.
Well that's it for now.
I luv u!

Pretty laid back day for labor day.  Up early for a run.  Out to walk the dog.  Megan has been taking care of the Leitz's dog, Chester, over the weekend.  So, we went over there to check on him.  I lost the cars keys along the way on our walk.  Back track to the park and up and down the street.  Megan  finally found them in the middle of the street about 30 minutes later.  Whew - it's the only set we have.  Then Some office work.  A haircut.  Theresa, Megan and Whitney and I headed over to Chautauqua for the Boulder Art Association exhibits and to see Laura Prill's demonstration of collaging.  Pretty cool.  Then a few errands to the grocery store, best buy, Dairy Queen and home for the evening.
We did go down to the ChristySports PowderDaze sale to check out lift tickets yesterday.  1hr drive all the down to south Denver - only to find out you have to be there in person to get a Copper 4-pack.  At $149 for 5 days it was a smoking deal.  *BUT*In the end we couldn't get one for Larry.  So, I decided not to get one for me either.  We'll just figure that out as we go.  We did end up buying 4 Eldora 3-packs for $79 each for our family.  That was the best deal going for us.  It was crazy down there.
Chloe had a sleep over last night for Natalie Pease's birthday last night.  As a result she is wiped out today - lots of napping and general grumpiness today.  She was also up early on Saturday morning for her first cross country meet.  She was ineligible this week 'cause she started practice too late.  I think they practice everyday after school.  Since she didn't make the volleyball team this was an opportunity to stay involved.  Glad she went for it.  She left the house at 7am on Saturday for the meet and I think she got home around 4pm.  In time to go baby sit at 5pm.
Good news about your thanksgiving plans.  We can figure out the airport pickups and drop offs.  I'm off that whole week so I don't think it will be a problem for us to be the shuttle in the mini-van - you can pay me the $35 :-)
Lot's of football yesterday.  Good day for MU and CU.  Not so good for KU.  Arizona had a good opener on Friday night too.
I played yesterday at church.  Had music practice on Thursday night - the same time as Megan's back to school night.  Theresa had to cover that one on her own.  We had Chloe's back to school night on Tuesday.
BSF starts next Monday.  Schedules are starting to get crazy.  Something happening just about every night now.
Theresa has a big gig coming up - to do a comedy sketch at a wedding rehersal dinner.  She knows the mother of the groom from W2W.  She's getting paid $100 to come up with a 5-min original sketch.  Very fun!
Well that's about it for now.

Very fun!

Well that's about it for now.

luv u,

Weekly Email

Hi Mom,

It's been a while since the last weekly email.  With meeting up in Estes Park and you travel on either end I slacked off a little bit.

We had such a good time in Estes Park - thanks again for spoiling us.  It seems like ages ago that we did that.  I'm ready for another one.  Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.  I'm hoping everyone can make it out to Boulder.  That's what we are planning for.  But I'm not sure what Steve's job will be like.  I haven't caught up with Steve in  a little while.

The girls are back full swing into school.  So far it hasn't been too bad.  I've had to help out with some geometry, biology and geography homework - that's about it - and I could still understand it all.  So, they haven't passed my knowledge up with the new fangled math just yet.

Megan has her new glasses (I can't remember if she had them in Estes).  I think I sent a picture to the Ceiva.  She says they help in the classroom for sure.

We had a successful 15th birthday party for Chloe at the Westin in downtown Denver last weekend.  We had dinner at the house before hand and headed down there around 7:30pm.  There were 4 other girls plus Chloe in an adjoining room.  And Megan brought her friend Whitney along to keep her company in our room.  The little girls hung out at the pool for a while, the older girls had a scavanger hunt around the hotel.  I told them not to leave the hotel, be mindful of the other guests, and to be back in their room by 12am.  They complied - and I didn't get any calls or complaints from the front desk - I didn't have to bail anybody out of jail either.  So all in all it was a good night.  We slept in the next morning and headed home around 11am.

We are headed over to a small group tonight to check it out with a handful of other families.  We haven't been in a small group for years so it will be interesting to see how it goes.  They are all younger than us - most with small children.

I just booked a quick weekend get-away up to Beaver Creek for my birthday weekend.  We had a couple of days left on our time share to use up so it worked out perfect for a Friday/Saturday night stay.  We also have tickets to see Idina Menzel (famous for starring in Wicked as Elphaba) perform with the Colorado Symphony on November 5th.  A couple of fun things to forward to.

I'm not sure when BSF is starting up again.  It's not tomorrow night - and probably not next Monday night since it's Labor Day.  So I'm guess it will be around the 12th - but I haven't heard from them officially to know who my leader will be.

We've watched a couple of movies lately - The Last Song with Miley Cyrus was pretty good.  And Half Nelson with Ryan Gosling was TERRIBLE.

That's all I know for now.  I love you.

luv,

Jeff
