Weekly Email

Hi Mom,

After missing a few weeks time to catch up in great detail.

I'm not sure where you guys are :-) We've had a good week of Monday off for Memorial Day, our first full week off of school, music practice, visit with Grandma, babysitting Padraig, worship team this morning, a friend of Chloe's spending the night tonight, Megan and Clara off to youth group tonight as well.... plenty of busyness.

The Bolder Boulder on Monday was great. The day was perfect - amazing weather and 50,000+ people of the 10K race. My goal was to break 40 minutes - I was 00:39:46.98 - 7th in my age group out of 429 (513 overall). I was pretty happy with that - it was about the best I could do. I was a pretty consistent 6:24min/mile pace. [results pictures] We just hung out for the rest of the day and ended up grilling for dinner. We've been enjoying the back deck as much as possible now that the weather has turned nice. I think the snow is behind us finally :-)

This weekend has been a work weekend around the house. We cleaned out the garage yesterday. It looks great. We threw a whole bunch of stuff away (had to make a run to the dump). Cleaned out all the grit and dirt from the winter. Identified some good garage sales items and cleared space for all the garage sale items Theresa has collected in the basement. There were a couple of garage sales in the neighborhood that we walked around and checked out - see if we could get any ideas and tips. Looks like we will be having our garage sale on the weekend of June 26th (maybe Friday and Saturday).

The girls have been busy earning money. They've been cat sitting for the past week. Chloe and Megan both have had a few babysitting jobs. Chloe has some more baby sitting this week. And Megan is lined up for dog sitting over the next several weeks.

Chloe starts volleyball camp this week. And Megan is headed out to Nebraska in a week for the middle school retreat.

Church was good this morning. We are working our way through a summer series on wisdom and the book of Proverbs. Tom is teaching it. There are a number of staff members out on sabbatical for the summer. Aaron Britton, our worship pastor, is one of them. After 5 years as a staff member at Calvary you get 3 months paid sabbatical. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. So - for the past 3 Sundays and for the rest of the summer we have volunteers leading the music. It was fun to play this morning - I wasn't leading but being the only acoustic guitar in the band meant I was louder than usual. A bit nerve wracking but good.

Home after church to do yard work. Mow the grass, trim a few bushes, weed whack... not my favorite thing but the yard is looking good. I turned on the sprinkler system last week - no major leaks from the winter. I had to patch a few holes. Keeping up with the yard is a never ending task. It just keeps growing :-)

We've watched a couple a fun movies this weekend. We watched The Tooth Fairy starring the Rock with the girls. It wasn't too bad. And then last on your recommendation we watched The Young Victoria. That was good too. Sure is an interesting life being a royal isn't. Fun to learn some of the history - longest reigning monarch. Queen Elizabeth II is gaining on Victoria though. She should over take her in 5 years :-)

I'm still waiting to hear about a new job at work. There were two openings and they've filled one. But there is still one left that they should announce in the next few days. I think the one that is still open is the one I really want. I know they've interviewed 3 external candidates for this position and there 2 internal candidates including me. We shall see. I would like to get it but I'm also just anxious to know what's going on. There will be a big re-org coming too and everybody is anxious about that as well. Corporate life - ain't it grand! But it's good to have a job. I spoke with Steve and know he's still going day by day to see what's next for him.

We did talk about 4th of July plans. I think we leave Boulder Friday (7/2) night after work and drive 3-4 hours to Colby/Hays. And arrive in Lansing Saturday (7/3) early afternoon. We'll stay at Steve's until around Wednesday (7/7) then head over to Independence to spend the rest of the time with Ken and Mona.

Theresa let me in on a surprise that's been in the works. She's been planning on an anniversary night out. We are headed to see Sting and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Red Rocks on Wednesday night. Should be fantastic.

Whew - okay - that's enough. Hope all is well with you.

luv u,

Jeff

Weekly Update

Hi Mom!

This weekend hasn't been near as eventful as last weekend - fortunately! No hot water heater repairs.

We've just had a nice weekend around the house. Chloe had a friend sleep over on Friday night. Megan was bored. Typical stuff :-) The weather is perfect today. After a week of snow and rain ending up Friday night, and grey day Saturday - today has been nice.

We renewed our Netflix membership so we've watched several movies this weekend. Spirit of the Marathon - documentary about running - highly recommended if you ever get the chance to see it - even if you aren't a runner :-) We watched another movie called Goal II: Living the Dream - a soccer movie. And Brothers last night - that was a tough one. We also have The Lovely Bones and Pirate Radio still to watch.

Megan and Chloe have both been busy babysitters. Earning money! Megan had a job Saturday morning from about 9-11am and Chloe babysat from 5-10pm Saturday night. Chloe is really working hard to save up for a DSLR camera (a fancy $500 digital one).

Theresa has been working on the basement. Trying to tidy it up, get stuff collected for a garage sale, cleaning things out.

Tomorrow is the last night of BSF for me. It's been a great study in John this year. I'll be kinda sad to see it end. But it's always good to have the break over the summer. Next year is a new study on the book of Isaiah. I've signed up already to continue on in the fall.

I talked to Steve a couple of times last week. He still isn't sure when his current job will wrap up - depending on what the liquidators do I guess. I asked his advice on what I should do about Dotsero - the vet is recommending $2500 surgery to repair his back left knee (ACL). You can guess what Steve's advice was :-)

We are counting down the last days of school also - not even two full weeks left. The 27th of May is the last day! We sure are ready for a break from the routine. Chloe is still trying to squeak out a few grades (hold on to her C in Spanish and bump up her D to a C in Science).

I've put in for a couple of promotions at work. My boss is changing jobs and they are backfilling her slot with two Director level positions. I applied for both of them and we'll see how it goes. It's definitely a lot more responsibility (managing a team of 30 or 40 - compared to the 14 I have now). But I'm not sure how much more money (if any). It's a pretty big step and I really don't want to sell my soul to the company - Director feels like one step closer to that.

Well I think it's time for nacho dinner and maybe some more movies :-) or maybe an episode of Chuck. That's it for now.

luv u,

Jeff

Hi Mom,

Whew what a day. Theresa discovered the hot water heater leaking yesterday. We got it all contained and mostly cleaned up. Then today I went to Home Depot and bought a new hot water heater and supplies to install it. $615 and 6 hours later we have hot water again. I was kinda surprised that I actually successfully installed it my self :-) It only took one additional trip back to home depot for missing parts.

Aside from that it's been a pretty good weekend.

Friday night Megan had a sleep over at Clara's and Chloe had a babysitting job from about 6-10pm. So Theresa and I had a date night. We went to dinner at Cantina Laredo. It was decent. A little upscale and pricey. I just like plain old Mexican food - nothing too fancy. Afterwards we went to see Date Night with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey. I really liked it. Again - another surprising Hollywood movie that celebrates marriage. It was a lot of fun.

Saturday morning was running club for me. Theresa and Chloe headed out for a haircut at about noon. And Megan went down to Elitch Gardens for the day.

In the evening Theresa and went to a charity function for Longmont Ending Violence Initiative (LEVI) - a group that works in the community to raise awareness and educate against domestic violence. It was their annual fundraiser and our leadership group from Intrado has been helping them all year. Theresa donated two purses for a silent auction. I think they went for $25 and $35 each. We also bid on and won a restaurant gift basket with vouchers from Buffalo Wild Wings, Outback Steak House, Red Robin and Le Peep (a $105 value we paid $60 for).

Normal church day this morning. And hot water heater repair all afternoon.
